End of my experiment.

May 31st, 2008

With windows hitting just under 10 days (9 days and 18 hours), system performance was going downhill. I felt like it was time to end my experiment. Now here are some interesting stats:

Pre-restart (had Firefox open only)
Uptime: 9 days 18 hours
Packets sent/received: Both just over 19 BILLION
Physical memory Available: 462736
Physical memory Total: 1048048

Post-restart (had Firefox open only)
Physical memory Available: 649224
Physical memory Total: 1048048

Notice the difference? It might not have been windows since I had other programs constantly operating but… Memory leak much?

PC Uptime crawling to 7 days.

May 28th, 2008

I only realized just before that my PC uptime has now reached a whopping 6 days and 2 hours. With packets sent and received over 13 billion. For those technically unsure, I used the command “systeminfo” for the DOS prompt showing uptime. What does this mean though? Well firstly passing 7 days will beat my personal record of leaving my computer on. And thats about it. But hey, you don’t get to see the number 13 million anywhere these days.

I plan to see how long this can go on for. The performance of my PC isn’t suffering yet, im still able to enjoy playing systemshock 2, warcraft 3 and painkiller. I would like to quickly put the spotlight on painkiller. Although an old game with no realism or particle effects or uber AI, any game while allows you to wield a gun which fires massive logs which nail people to walls its AWESOME!!!

My next goal is to get to 1 trillion packets sent/received.

Rebuild of evangelion 1.0 you are not alone

May 27th, 2008

Now I loved the evangelion series. One of the first few philosophical psychotic animes. The hand drawn graphics were great. For those of you who haven’t seen this fine series basically a bunch of robot, living things that for some unexplained reason love to come and kill stuff threatening human existence. So robots are made which can only be piloted by young children which result in them all becoming bipolar, schizophrenic and plain messed up in their heads before a a robot is somewhat ceremonially sacrificed killing off the entire human race.

But now, it seems the people behind creating the great series and the movies have run out of money to do their seriously messed up drugs on. They now want to milk the evangelion teet a bit more. When I say they ran out of money to buy their messed up drugs I was being quite serious. This series is now more viewer friendly with alot of the creepy and eerie parts replaced with sci-fi terms and crappy 3d graphics.

All sense of suspense is taken away with Misato, a questionable NERV operative, explaining the first half of the series within 10 minutes. The earsore sirens that used to play in the original have been replaced by a more upbeat rhythmical song which replaced the schizophrenic serial killer mood to a mood more of the poorly made Gundam series. Everything that used to make evangelion, evangelion is now gone. The show now revolves less around the bipolar schizoid pilot’s journey from self hatred to further self hatred and more around giant CGI robots with mini guns.

This is a somewhat stale version of the original show. Much like milk that has been left in the sun to long this show has large moldy chunks of its original product that the producers have put a new “mech battle and 3d graphics” flavoring in to make it taste better. At first it tastes sweet but soon revealing its off nature finding its way quickly to the bin.

Job seeking

May 26th, 2008

With 2 weeks left in my Dee-plow-ma I have decided to start applying for jobs. The thing is most companies want people with experience. Thats ok, I apply for them aswell. In fact I apply for every job posting I see that looks like I could even remotely perform.

The other problem is they are all at least 2 hours away. Thats ok for me, I dont mind driving, it gives me a good oppourtunity to listen to ebooks and podcasts. Even the lastest album. One reply from a company felt kind enough to tell me I live to far away. I emailed them back trying to re-assure that 2 hours away is fine but they ignore me SENDING ME BACK THE EXACT SAME EMAIL.

Secondly now I have these dreadful assignments copy and pasted from an internet site. Now lets get this straight, I don’t mind assignments, sure they take away a few hours of my time but as long as they are put together logically and as long as the teacher even glanced at what we had to do before handing them out it would be fine. But this DOENST HAPPEN. Instead, taechers hand out these cookie cut assignments off the internet or some other resource of question. Then try to explain them in class while trying to comprehend what is on the piece of paper themselves. I had a teacher trying to explain to me a small business in taxidermy floated thier company, with thier shares falling for 10 years, but they still manage to stay in business. All with no proper or centralized accounting to properly report their financial situation to the ATO. They would have been fined into bankruptcy were this true. Not only are the students confused but the teachers are confused. They confuse themselves into thinking that what they handed out makes sense. This self delusion goes on for the whole lesson while they slowly read through the sheet explaining what “is to be done”. Now “is to be done” should not be confused with “should be done”. We can clearly see what was the original denotations and conotations of the text from its original source website.

This is much like the notes from TAFE which seem to be from company website “help” sections and internet “howto” forums.

It seems like the teachers know very little. Any attempt to write their own notes or their own assignments results in complete or incomplete rubbish that misleads you into thinking maybe you are doing more harm then good. That paper could have been saved, saving trees…. or aptly it could have been used for a paper aeroplane or to LIGHT A FIRE. Any of these would have been more interesting and educational then when a teacher tries to write his/her own notes.
